Business Development & Strategic Alliances Director/Manager, leading all aspects of a business development project in Japan. Must be able to handle a wide range of projects and work end to end; engagement of prospective partners, negotiation and finalisation. Must have strong judgement and decision-making skills in order to take responsibility both for progressing transactions and terminating transactions. Also will contribute to the development of ** strategy in the area of Alliances. Will take accountability for leadership of specific alliances and will take on the project management of major strategic buy or sell-side deals.
Alliance Management network; supporting the implementation of appropriate processes for engaging partners to understand their views on what ** does well, and where we could improve.
• Degree level education.
• Life Sciences background preferred.
• MBA, general business knowledge preferred.
• Native level Japanese and business fluency in English
• Broad knowledge of pharmaceutical business, process and activities.
• Mastery of making business contracts.
• Knowledge of scientific, commercial and financial evaluation techniques.
• Demonstrated knowledge of alliance and/or project management tools and processes.
• Experience in working with external parties at a senior level.
• Proven risk management and project control process implementation.
• Ability to take an effective leadership role when working in a cross-functional team without formal authority.
• First-class collaborative and networking skills.
• An understanding of the drug development process, intellectual property management, commercial, financial and other aspects typically associated with global licensing evaluation process.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to ascertain the relevant issues from large masses of information.
• Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, demonstrating flexibility and a proven ability to deal with complexity under time pressure.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal skills required in order to establish credibility and respect with internal and external contact.
• Knowledge of alternative deal structures and legal principles applicable to a range of deal types.
• Numerate and having financial literacy.
• Proven negotiation skills and experience of working in an intense deal environment.
• Gravitas and experience to create a positive relationship with third parties as an ** Ambassador at Board and Executive Committee level.
